Tom Hiddleston strolled back in time and recalled the inspiration behind his performance of Marvel’s god of mischief, Loki’s role.

According to People Magazine, during the Loki cast panel at PaleyFest 2024 on Saturday, April 13, Hiddleston opened up about how he got himself ready to play the iconic role of Loki.

He said that he studied Alan Rickman’s memorable performance portraying Hans Gruber in the 1988 movie Die Hard, as well as James Mason’s master spy Phillip Vandamm in the 1959 classic thriller North by Northwest.

Hiddleston said while referring to the antagonistic characters he read, “Those are all characters that are about control and revenge.”

He went on to say, “I might just love those performances as a child. … I just was so drawn to those performances as they seemed to be having such a wonderful time playing these antagonists, I suppose.”

“And that was part of the charm. They were so charismatic, even though they weren’t at the center of those films,” he added.

Loki’s character when first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor or Avengers films 13 years back, it was not portrayed as a main character but later on with the cunning trickster’s debut on Disney+ in June 2021, it caught all the spotlight.

Season 2 of Loki revolves around Loki’s transformation from an evil and selfish character to someone who wants to save the universe. It is available to stream on Disney+.
